1. Cactus Mart
While mostly a purveyor of cacti, Cactus Mart also feature other goods, from local art to postcards, for visitors to peruse and potentially purchase. Cactus Mart should be on any Joshua Tree itinerary as it’s an iconic destination with its rows upon rows of cacti, succulents and other desert plants where in between you will find free range chickens, as well as cats roaming about. This desert plant emporium has been stopping people in their tracks since the 1960s when it first opened to the public to showcase that a wide variety of plant life can survive in the desert. And it continues to draw visitors in both for its assortment of plant life and the unique backdrop it provides for photos.

2. Hey There! Projects
Unassumingly tucked away in a strip mall on 29Palms Highway near the entrance of Joshua Tree National Park is Hey There Projects an art gallery that features established and up and coming local artists. The gallery, which was established by artists and old friends Mark Todd and Aaron Smith also contains a retail space that has additional unique goods at a variety of price points, including wearables and desert lifestyle options.

Sun Of The Desert is your modern-day general store, offering a good selection of desert-inspired goods, founded by Jimmy Brower + Damien Merino. According to the founders, Sun Of The Desert was, “Created with the traveler, do-it-yourselfer, and local in mind.” What we love about it is its great assortment of offerings that are useful for during your Joshua Tree visit and to remember it by.
