  9. The high water temperature in a hot tub will accelerate drowsiness if a person has consumed alcohol or is taking drugs, increasing the risk of drowning.

  10. As with swimming pools, immediately exit and seek shelter if you see lightning or during any other kind of adverse weather.

  11. The owner reserves the right to test the water at any time and address any safety issues with the water quality.

House Rules & Information

  1. Always keep the hot tub covered when not in use. This will conserve ambient heat, and prevent any person/animal or debris from falling into the tub.

  2. Always shower with soap and water before entering the hot tub, in order to remove any lotions, etc - people wearing fake tans must not use the hot tub - always shower after using the hot tub in order to remove chlorine, etc.

  3. We clean the hot tub before each stay but cannot prevent insects from entering the hot tub during your stay. There is a skimmer located in the living room console to remove any unwanted visitors.

  4. Drain the hot tub by tapping the silver release on the bottom before you check out.

Heating Instructions

Fill the hot tub so that the surface is covered by at least 1.5 inches of water before heating. Never heat the hot tub if it is empty. This can cause a fire.

Build a fire inside the stove as you would in a fireplace or any other wood stove with a fire starter, kindling, and well-split firewood. Open the stove door to provide a maximum draft. This allows the fire to burn faster. Once the fire is going you can close down the damper and stove door so as to limit the amount of oxygen entering the stove. By closing down the damper you limit the amount of air the stove can take in and the rate of combustion will be reduced. More usable heat will be given off by closing down the damper slightly so that heat from burning gasses remains inside the stove for a longer period and transmits more heat into the tub. By opening the damper completely or closing it all the way, the heat will be lost or the temperature of the water will decrease.

The hot tub cover is insulating. Leave it on while heating for the water to heat up faster. As long as you put the cover back on the tub when you’re finished, it should keep its temperature overnight for a hot sunrise soak without having to build another fire.

Heating times can vary depending on many factors such as the size, dryness, and specie of wood, the size of the fire and how frequently it is fed, ambient wind and temperature, etc. Generally, the tub will heat at the rate of about 31° F per hour with the cover on the tub and well-dried softwood for fuel.

Controlling the temperature of water in the tub is really simple. It is much like the process of controlling the temperature of the water when filling a bathtub for a warm bath. The water in the top layer of the tub will be hot, while at the bottom it will be colder. Use the wood paddle to stir the water, so the temperature of the water becomes more uniform. To increase water temp, build a hotter fire by adding wood or oxygen. To decrease water temperature close the top of the stove completely to reduce the fire. Always check the floating thermometer before using the hot tub. Never heat the hot tub higher than 104 degrees Fahrenheit.
