Where To Find Zen In The High Desert

Self care options around Joshua Tree National Park are as diverse as its rock formations. For some it means conquering a challenging climb, for others it may be meditation or a massage. Whatever your form of self care is, in and around Joshua Tree and 29Palms there are a number of different ways you can practice it. Here are our top three.

1. Meditative Hike In Joshua Tree National Park

PA010525.JPG

There are more than 68 trails in Joshua Tree National Park for you to practice meditative hiking. The difference between a non- and meditative hike is the focus. Our brains are wired to be always on so to truly practice a meditative hike requires focus on your intention, breathing and movement. This allows you to stay in the moment, harness your senses and hike with intention. Some less busy trailheads to consider for a meditative hike are 49 Palms Oasis and Eagle Cliff Mine.

2. Sound Bath At The Integratron

No visit to Joshua Tree is complete without a stop to the Integratron located just north of Joshua Tree in Landers, California. The Integratron was created by George Van Tassel and inspired by the design of Moses’ Holy Tabernacle, the writings of Nikola Tesla and extraterrestrials. While its design references should be enough to capture your interest, the more unique part of this property listed on the National Register of Historic Places by the National Park Service, is its location that causes magnometers to spike.

Between its shape and being at the center of a magnetic force field, the Integratron is the perfect backdrop and location for a healing group or private sound bath. These sound healing sessions offer many benefits including relaxation, heightened clarity, increased sense of well being, among others. The Integratron offers 60 minute sound baths that provide a history on the property, a little more than a half hour of 20 quartz crystal singing bowls played live, with the remainder of the hour to relax with ambient music. Click here to book a session and make sure to do so well in advance of your visit as the sessions sell out quickly.
