Your Guide To Getting Married In Joshua Tree National Park

The allure of getting married in Joshua Tree National Park is undeniable. For couples seeking a unique and intimate way to exchange vows, Joshua Tree offers an unforgettable experience amidst the iconic Joshua trees, towering rock formations, and star-studded skies. Getting married in Joshua Tree National Park promises to be an experience like no other. In this guide, we'll take you through some top considerations as you and your partner plan your dream desert wedding.

1. Choosing The Perfect Spot To Say I DO!

Joshua Tree is brimming with picturesque spots for your ceremony, from the majestic rock formations of Hidden Valley to the serene beauty of Barker Dam to Heart Rock. We would recommend visiting the Park during the time of year and day you plan to have your wedding and visiting potential locations to help determine what will provide the best backdrop as you say your “I Dos.” It’s also important to keep in mind that the more iconic options tend to be crowded during peak months so consider lesser known but equally as beautiful spots within the Park, like these 7 Joshua Tree Rock formations you won’t find on the Park map. These lesser-known locations could be ideal for those who want their ceremony to coincide with the magical golden hour of sunrise or sunset, when the desert landscape is bathed in soft, warm light, perfect for photos and videos.

2. Obtaining Park Permits & Permissions

Couples must obtain a special use permit from the National Park Service (click here to learn more) if they plan to hold your ceremony in a designated area or if you have a larger group. Beyond the couple having the special use permit for the wedding, the couple’s vendors must also be in possession of the appropriate permitting as well. Beyond the special use permit, couples and any guests must abide by the Leave No Trace principles. This means respecting the fragile desert ecosystem by minimizing your impact on the environment by packing out all trash. Additional Leave No Trace guidance that is specific to weddings are the types of items that can be used including a freestanding arch, watercooler, small table, live flowers, battery powered candles, runner, rug, cake and champagne. Finally an important note for couples who truly and legitimately want to be married in Joshua Tree National Park, you need to ensure to secure a California marriage license.
