Directions
Whether you’re arriving from the east or the west, you’ll take Utah Trail for the final leg of your journey. First you’ll pass through a more dense area of homes and then the view will expand as you get closer to the park. At this point, the left turn onto Hillview Rd comes up quick. The road is not lighted, so at night it can be hard to see. It is also a dirt road so drive slow.
After turning on left onto Hillview, you’ll pass our neighbor’s handwritten signs for speed limits and private property. They live in the orange house on the right and are very nice. After you pass their house, the road makes a sharp right turn. That’s the beginning of our road. From here, you’ll see our white house. The driveway enters the back of the house and curls around to the front. There is ample parking around the water tanks.

Water is precious in the desert and ours is hauled. Treat it kindly. If you have any issues whatsoever, please call/text the emergency contact or reach out via Airbnb.

Please remember to shut the doors behind you to prevent the critters from ruining your stay.
Food & Dirty Dishes
Food left out unwrapped other than produce and dirty dishes will lead to ants.
Fire Safety
Please only use wood in the fire pit and hot tub stove and dispose of any remaining hot ashes in the ash can. The wind can take the embers into the desert presenting a fire hazard for the surrounding area. There is a fire extinguisher mounted in the kitchen.
Wind
The desert is windy! Please don't leave anything outside that you don't want to blow away. Also, please forgive anything that might seem out of place outside when you arrive.
Exploring Around The House
Enjoy the area around the house and be a good neighbor. If you’re looking for a walkable desert adventure, the backcountry of the park is just across Utah Trail. Walk down the road past our neighbor’s house to Utah Trail. Once you cross the road, you’re in the national park and are free to roam as you please. Just be careful of critters and cacti and leave no trace!
General Words of Caution
The desert is untamed and unpredictable. Watch where you step and don’t touch cacti.
Hot Tub - Out of Order.
The hot tub was damaged recently. Please do not use it.
WARNINGS
Make sure the stove surface is covered by at least 1.5 inches of water before heating. Never heat the hot tub if it is empty. This can cause a fire.
You are using the hot tub at your own risk.
Pregnant women, persons with heart disease, diabetes, or high blood pressure problems, and elderly people should not use a hot tub or spa without a doctor’s permission.
WE DO NOT ADVISE YOUNG CHILDREN TO USE THE HOT TUB. In the event that you allow a minor to use the HOT TUB, they must BE SUPERVISED AT ALL TIMES.
Never use a hot tub alone.
Limit time in the hot tub or spa to no more than 15 minutes.
No glass products whatsoever in or around the hot tub.
Do not use a hot tub if the water temperature is above 104 degrees Fahrenheit.
The high water temperature in a hot tub will accelerate drowsiness if a person has consumed alcohol or is taking drugs, increasing the risk of drowning.
As with swimming pools, immediately exit and seek shelter if you see lightning or during any other kind of adverse weather.
The owner reserves the right to test the water at any time and address any safety issues with the water quality.
House Rules & Information
Always keep the hot tub covered when not in use. This will conserve ambient heat, and prevent any person/animal or debris from falling into the tub.
Always shower with soap and water before entering the hot tub, in order to remove any lotions, etc - people wearing fake tans must not use the hot tub - always shower after using the hot tub in order to remove chlorine, etc.
We clean the hot tub before each stay but cannot prevent insects from entering the hot tub during your stay. There is a skimmer located in the living room console to remove any unwanted visitors.
Drain the hot tub by tapping the silver release on the bottom before you check out.
Heating Instructions
Fill the hot tub so that the surface is covered by at least 1.5 inches of water before heating. Never heat the hot tub if it is empty. This can cause a fire.
Build a fire inside the stove as you would in a fireplace or any other wood stove with a fire starter, kindling, and well-split firewood. Open the stove door to provide a maximum draft. This allows the fire to burn faster. Once the fire is going you can close down the damper and stove door so as to limit the amount of oxygen entering the stove. By closing down the damper you limit the amount of air the stove can take in and the rate of combustion will be reduced. More usable heat will be given off by closing down the damper slightly so that heat from burning gasses remains inside the stove for a longer period and transmits more heat into the tub. By opening the damper completely or closing it all the way, the heat will be lost or the temperature of the water will decrease.
The hot tub cover is insulating. Leave it on while heating for the water to heat up faster. As long as you put the cover back on the tub when you’re finished, it should keep its temperature overnight for a hot sunrise soak without having to build another fire.
Heating times can vary depending on many factors such as the size, dryness, and specie of wood, the size of the fire and how frequently it is fed, ambient wind and temperature, etc. Generally, the tub will heat at the rate of about 31° F per hour with the cover on the tub and well-dried softwood for fuel.
Controlling the temperature of water in the tub is really simple. It is much like the process of controlling the temperature of the water when filling a bathtub for a warm bath. The water in the top layer of the tub will be hot, while at the bottom it will be colder. Use the wood paddle to stir the water, so the temperature of the water becomes more uniform. To increase water temp, build a hotter fire by adding wood or oxygen. To decrease water temperature close the top of the stove completely to reduce the fire. Always check the floating thermometer before using the hot tub. Never heat the hot tub higher than 104 degrees Fahrenheit.
