3 Accessories To Elevate Your Outdoor Yoga & Meditation Practice In Joshua Tree

There is something truly magical about Joshua Tree National Park. Beautiful energy abounds throughout the desert (after all there are multiple energy vortices located in the area) which makes it a perfect setting to relax, reset and reconnect with yourself or others. For some, this can include the practice of yoga and meditation.

At all of our WKNDR getaways (BOOK NOW), we provide our guests with amenities to practice yoga and meditation onsite and at the WKNDR Starside you will also find an outdoor meditation pyramid as well as a meditation labyrinth.

For those who plan to practice during their visit to Joshua Tree National Park we would recommend finding room in your suitcase for the following 3 accessories to complement and supplement the yoga and meditation amenities and accessories available at WKNDR Getaways.

1. Sunscreen

While we recommend practicing at times when there is less sun exposure, we know how challenging it can be to avoid those UV rays in the desert. We also realize some yogis prefer to practice in the desert heat. So sunscreen and water are two things you can never have enough of when practicing yoga in the desert. We recommend ditching the 30 for 50 SPF because the Mojave sun shows no mercy. We also recommend sunscreen sticks so that you aren’t rubbing sand and dirt from your hands onto your skin. The desert can be windy, so spray is not always the best option. If you’re prone to sunburn, we also recommend Sunburnt gel. It’s the only product we’ve used that feels okay to put on and prevents peeling. It’s a life-changer for those who are on the fairer side.

2. Inflatable Meditation Cushion

Part of what makes the high desert so beautiful is its diverse and dynamic terrain. While this does serve as a breathtaking backdrop for outdoor practice it’s not the most comfortable to physically practice on which is why we recommend packing an inflatable meditation cushion that can serve as either extra padding for beneath your sit bones or as a cradle for your head. This in addition to your preferred yoga mat will help facilitate a more sustainable and comfortable practice whether in the open desert or beneath our meditation pyramid. An added benefit, if you are a frequent traveler this can make for a more relaxing seat either in the car or on a plane.

3. Hydroflask

When practicing in the desert heat, we highly recommend keeping a 64 oz insulated hydroflask next to your yoga mat and or cushion to be able to rehydrate as needed. Given the intensity of the UV rays in the high desert, this is not a nice to have but a must-have. And the more water it can hold the better, which is why we recommend the 64 oz. These can also be used for shorter-distance hikes, however, we do always recommend a hydration backpack with a minimum of 2 liters of water for hiking because you never know when you might want to explore a little more and you don’t want hydration or carrying a water bottle to hold you back.

Tell us in the comments what you would add to the list.
